Default Dying A Chaos Axe?? yes, I did a search first :)

I've been reading up on dying my Chaos axe. I've looked at the charts here & on a few other sites & their still a bit confusing to me (see the below link). I'm trying to get a Purple Chaos Axe to match my characters armor. This chart below leads me to believe I need to mix 4 green dyes to get a purple color (its the upper left purple). Am I reading this correctly? Also, I???ve already applied a purple dye to an un-dyed greenish Chaos Axe. Do I have to remove any dye I've applied to it or does dye just overwrite any prior colors? Thanks for your help.

you only need 1 green dye. 4 greens is still green.

To get the color from the chart, they used 2 greens to achieve that color.

no need to use dye remover, and no, you do not need 2 greens. you only need 1 green dye.

Strider don't you listen?
You don't put 2 green dyes on the armor.
You take 2 green dyes, and mix them together, if you drag and drop the dyes on eachother they will mix, hence how you get gold and pink and white etc.

If I'm correct in saying so, if you mix 2 green dyes, you will make a more intensified green.

ps.
Chaos axes are different from regular weapons. Eternal-looking equipment needs strange mixes.
The blue one is purrdy.

dahl, how many times have you tried dying a chaos axe?

if you're trying to tell me that mixing 2 green dyes will yield a different shade of green, then... i really have nothing to say.

anyway, to the OP, i'm saying you only need 1 green dye to get that purple on your axe (if indeed the chart is correct). you can believe me, or spend a few extra gold and mix 2 greens together. the dye shouldn't be that expensive anyway, so it's really up to you.

Adding more of the same color will change things, whether you like to admit it or not.. and everyone on these forums will vouch for that.
For example.
If you mix black+black+blue, you'll get a different color than you would if you mixed
black+black+black+blue.

For most weaponry, yes, 2 green dyes and ONLY 2 green dyes wouldnt really do anything. But it's different for chaos axes and eternal bows/shields.
If you try dying a chaos axe blue with a blue dye, it will not work. It's not the same as regular weapons.

To recap... Dying chaos axes does not work the same way ordinary equipment does.

think about what you just said. when mixing different colors, it will matter how many of each you add. this is because you are changing the proportion of the colors.
black + black + blue is 2/3 black and 1/3 blue. of course it will be a different shade than black + black + black + blue, which is 3/4 black and 1/4 blue.

but you mean to tell me that green + green is different than just green? either way you look at it, it's still 100% green.

AHHHHH OMG!!!

1 green dye will turn your chaos axe purple. Simple enough.

I tried using a blue dye on my chaos axe thinking it was going to turn blue.
If what you're saying about the chart is correct, then one blue dye should have turned the chaos axe red.

It didn't.

The chaos axe will still be white in the middle , the dye only changes the aura around it. HHMM I always use just one blue dye to get a red chaos axe.

whoever said that mixing two greens (or any color) together has apparently never tried it.
i'll say this once, since this argument is really silly:
you can't mix two colors of the same type, since using a green dye on another green dye WON'T MIX THEM! it will use that slot, and say you have two green dyes!!!
if you mix green with another color, then you can use other greens on it (max of 3 greens in one vial of dye).
mixing two greens doesn't make since logically and is IMPOSSIBLE in guild wars.

To apply the dye, you have to double-click on one, and single click on the other. Dragging & dropping the dye will simply stack or swap inventory slots. I would agree that attempting to apply a pure dye to another pure dye of the same color will give you an error. It's been a few months since I've tried it, but I'm sure that's what happened. I believe you can apply a mixed dye to a mixed dye of the same type. Neat chart... I'm gonna try and make a pink axe

Yes you can mix two dyes, although the method of accomplishing such a task is rather stupid.

ANYWAY.

You only need one green dye to give it a purple aura. Not two, three, twenty, a kazillion, just one.

For those who haven't noticed, the dye chart says in an angled text "single dyes", and it's descending. This means that you need to only use that dye BY ITSELF to accomplish the colour, and nothing more. There is no mixing involved, merely just the dye you get from the trader or the floor or some box in the middle of nowhere.

If you wanted to make some weird mathematical analogy about it, think of it as an identity matrix.

1.0.0
0.1.0
0.0.1

Where in this case the ones are single dyes and the zeroes are dual dyes (blue + green , green + orange, etc)

I did not feel like wasting my other green dye, as I have evil plans for it, so this is the result of one green dye:

Hey guys. I know the debate was more concerning the mixing of the same color dyes, but just as Vevila shows in his picture, one green dye did turn my chaos axe purple. Thanks for all the input.

I think the confusing part of this is that whoever made that chart had multiple dyes on their account when they took the screenshots. It makes it look like you need the number of dyes in their inventory to make that happen. Even though it does say single dye on the diagonal.

I just think the number of dye is coincidental and not meant to be part of the guide. For example, it shows 2 Silver dye. I just put one silver on mine and it came out the way shown on the chart.
